Bishop Appeals for Famine Relief
The Central Church Council has appealed to church members, organisations, NGO’s and other stakeholders to contribute towards the famine relief kitty. The funds would be channelled through local churches and areas….and finally; the central office will disperse the famine relief to various areas.
The church has also tasked HOLDER INTERNATIONAL, the church Registered NGO to be in the forefront in providing logistical support, towards the distribution of food.
Walter Rutto, The director of Compassionate Ministries, has been involved heavily in the preparations and part of the planning of this initiative. More than 3.5 million Kenyans in northern Kenya are facing death…due to famine.
This is the region’s worst drought in six decades, according to UN estimates. The region has suffered immensely in terms of water scarcity and food insecurity and the onus falls upon the government to institute long term measures to end this problem which appears - as the current scenario suggests – remain unabated.
Residents of these areas are mainly pastoralists but with the current situation, even their economic mainstay - cows, goats and camels is at risk.
Africa Gospel church, Kenya is prepared to work with other partners in providing water and dry food to these residents in drought stricken areas. It is our prayer that this initiative will help in mitigating the effects of drought in these areas.
