Bishop Appeals for Famine Relief

Bishop Appeals for Famine Relief

The central church council has appealed  to church members, organisations, NGO’s and  other stakeholders to contribute  towards the famine relief kitty. The funds would be channelled through local churches and areas….and finally; the central office will disperse the famine relief to various areas.

The church has also tasked HOLDER INTERNATIONAL, the church Registered NGO to be in the forefront in providing logistical support, towards the distribution of food. Walter Rutto, The director of Compassionate ministries, has been involved heavily in the preparations and part of the planning of this initiative.

More than 3.5 million Kenyans in northern Kenya are facing death…due to famine. , This is the region’s worst drought in six decades, according to UN estimates. The region has suffered immensely in terms of water scarcity and food insecurity and the onus falls upon the government to institute long term measures to end this problem which appears - as the current scenario suggests – remain unabated.

Residents of these areas are mainly pastoralists but with the current situation, even their economic mainstay - cows, goats and camels is at risk.

Africa Gospel church, Kenya is prepared to work with other partners in providing water and dry food to these residents in drought stricken areas.

It is our prayer that this initiative will help in mitigating the effects of drought in these areas.

Cheptenye Boys High School Visits AGC Media Department and Radio Injili

cheptenye-boys-1A group of students from Cheptenye Boys High School recently visited the AGC Media Department at the Central Office in Kericho.

The students were Form Three students and were given a tour of the AGC video editing and web site editing, as well as the Radio Injili studioes led by their teacher John Kirui.

One of the students, Simon Korir said, "At Cheptenye we are aspiring to attain a mean score of 8.5 in our national exams come next year.   We were impressed by the candidates of last year who tried their best to attain a mean score of 7.1.   But we aspire higher!   And with God's help, we shall attain this."

cheptenye-boys-3The students were impressed with the church's use of digital media to tell its story to the world.

Radio Injili not only broadcasts all over western Kenya, it is also streaming live on the internet and is able to reach the Kenyan diaspora with a "taste of home" both in terms of music, entertainment, local news, and daily inspiration.

The Media office assists with the church website and video production to help inform people of what God is doing through the ministries in Kenya and beyond.

With a missionary force of about 55 missionaries serving in 4 countries in East Africa, the use of mass media, especially video helps people in local churches to get a "feel" for the challenges that missionaries face and assists them to know better how to pray for them.
