The Migrated God Has Come Back Again
The year 2007 was a different year from the past few years we have witnessed in Kangolitiang! This year the rains have been abundant. The Suam River which feeds the Turkwel dam has given way for people to plant maize on the silt deposited after changing its course within. Henceforth, environment is unusually full of life-everywhere is green! Flowers of different scents and colors have blossomed. The Livestock are happy too, they have multiplied as the vegetation is plentifully. Guards full of milk are brought to church every Sunday as first fruits and tithes. Everyone has a story to tell concerning all the recent happenings.
There was this group of old men who talked in low tones to each other. They were happy that their livestock were home after along time out in the distant grazing grounds. One of the old men raised his voice on a point of information and pointed out that there has been a "man" behind all this.
He explained that the construction of the Turkwel Dam, had caused the man responsible for rain to migrated to Mt. Kadam in Uganda. His departure has resulted in condemnation of the land which has seen little rain since.
Mercifully he had returned this year, hence the abundant rainfall.
Everyone was quiet for sometime until one old man who is a member of the church broke the silence with a soft but friendly voice: he started to narrate what used to happen since his childhood: pointing out that the "Laibons" (Rainmakers) wielded immense power over the rains, however he recalled an incident when he had grown up, there was a big drought which caused people to cry to the rainmakers to intervene, but all was in vain as no rain came to the land.
When he got married, he participated in sacrifices giving out offerings through the man believed to have migrated to Mt. Kadam in order to allow for the rains to come, but to no avail. His tone livened up when he began to explain how things changed when He gave his life to Christ four years ago.
He testified of how God has been blessing the land with the coming of the Gospel.
He fortified his point by recalling the A.G.C men's fellowship which was held last September. The Pastor had read from the word of God which promised the fruitfulness of the land when people totally obey God.
He pointed out that because of the tithes people gave, God had been faithful to give rain. The result was the abundant wealth; the animals no longer needed to trek to volatile areas prone to cattle rustling.
The goats and sheep are bearing twins not because of a "a man" but because of God!
Foods was growing in plenty not because of a man, but due to God's miraculous ways-The shambas that were cultivated have become fruitful and everyone harvested from it.
The old man drove his point further when he narrated a threat by the "Laibon" who called him early this year to go with a bull to be offered for which he declined, the outcome was clear for all to see; his flock and shambas were fine including his children. He then encouraged his friends not to fear men but God-who is the source of everything.
The rest of the men agreed with him.
The shambas have now become a great Lake! Due to the heavy rains, the Hydro electric producing dam has extended all the way from Turkwel to Kangolitiang. Who will believe the mystery behind it-out of the waters came out plenty of corn.
Personally I was happy that whatever is going on is not of a god but the works of the Great Jehovah. Proving Himself in the midst of His children standing to fulfill His word.
Our Activities for the past quarter of the year
Joint meetings: The month of May was busy and we had joint meetings with different churches at different places which were well attended.
Pastors' wives seminar: Also we had the pastors' wives Seminar. The turn up was good. The facilitators were Mrs. Ann Korir and Christine Maina.
The lessons were on family life and evangelism: This became an encouragement to the pastors' wives. They started to have a different perspective about their family and ministry.
They are looking forward for another seminar of their own.
The payment was Kshs. 50.00 for the three days they stayed.
Fund raising
- On June we had a successful fund raising towards the purchase of 30 iron sheets for Tippets sanctuary. We were able to raise Kshs. 36,000.We praise God for the way He has continually blessed His people. They gave their goats, sheep and cows. The construction is going on now.
- Kang'olitiang Local Church is looking forward to a big fund raising in aid of completing the sanctuary walls. Up to now they have raised Kshs. 40,000 they are targeting 50,000 to start off.
- Thanks to the friends from A.G.C living word Nairobi who visited the local church and motivated them towards this great task.
- Losam Local church is busy raising funds to buy iron sheets for their daughter church. Their aim is to ensure their daughter church has a shade then to start working on their own sanctuary which is without walls. This is one of the churches that is fast growing with an average membership of 110. God willing, by December they would have finished their project.
- Chepkirony will have her fund raising on 11-11-2007 to aid in purchase of iron sheets to put up a shade. They are currently using a nursery school building. Pray with us as we look forward to shifting to a 40-iron sheet building in the near future.
Youth Ministry:
Our youth ministry is progressing well. This year we held a youth camp on 22nd August 2007. All our 14 churches were represented.
The attendance grew from a population of 100 young people to 186 on the fourth day.
The theme of the camp was based on Romans 12:9:
Pr. Raymond Rono and Caroline Chepwogen were our main facilitators.
Our Evangelists came and actively participated together with us.
We praise God for His provisions during the meeting. The youth each paid Kshs. 50.00 and brought 2 kg of either beans or maize. Those who could not get the maize or beans paid Kshs. 100.00.
At the end of the camp, everybody was looking forward for the next camp meeting.
Challenges
- The majority of those in attendance were mainly junior youths and we saw the need to separate the juniors from the seniors so as to effectively reach them.
- Female circumcision is still wide spread in this part, many girls are to be circumcised-and will be in seclusion for about 4 months. Pray with us as we plan to reach out to the girls. Our District Church Council has this burden and we are looking forward to having several seminars for girls aged 10-15 and their mothers since there are those who fall prey to the practice.
Upcoming Events
1. Men's Ministry
Men's Carmel celebration time will be in October 2007. We could not hold it in September because of so many activities that were going on—especially harvesting season.
Pray with us that many men will come to know the Lord at this time. We will be welcoming all men saved and unsaved to sit together in the name of eating a camel's meat with the Gospel. We had several men come to Christ last year and are now strong believers of Christ.
2. Pastor's Seminar
We have a three day seminars for our Evangelists in the month of November.
Our main challenge now is developing leaders to assist in different ministries in the church and upcoming daughter churches.
3. General Camp
We look forward to having a general camp in December 2007.
We hope to have our members in the whole of Kang'olitiang Mission Field come together. Pray for us as we negotiate with a nearby Primary school to have their classrooms be the dormitories.
We praise God for what He is doing in our midst. All this is because of your prayers and support.
God bless you as you continually strive to make a difference in our ministry.
