AGC Mission Fields Description

East and West Pokot

The Pokot outreach covers two districts in Kenya: West Pokot and East Pokot district.

West Pokot

Most of West Pokot is a semi arid area with a small part being high potential.

The Pokot people are pastoralists and depend upon livestock for their living. Christianity has not penetrated well in this district as they were hostile to the gospel earlier. Right now, however, they are very receptive. A.G.C has had a significant influence, planting up to 30 local churches. We currently have two stations: Chepnyal, and Kang’oletiang.

The church attendance among the Pokots is estimated at 5% in the urban areas and only 2% in the rural area.

We still have much to do here as there are many more villages with no schools nor any church activity.

East Pokot

East Pokot is primarily a new district curved out from Baringo District. It is located at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley and is mainly arid and semi arid scrubland.

Turkana

The Turkana speaking people are among the least reached people of Kenya.

Turkana is the largest district in Kenya. This is an arid area with very little rainfall. The Turkanas are deeply routed in their culture, which is an obstacle in reaching out to them. It is estimated that the church attendance among the Turkanas are 5 % in both rural and urban areas.

Tanzania

Directly to the south of Kenya, the Africa Gospel Church has recently been registered with the Tanzanian government. The mission work has just been started there and is currently confined within the Masaai area, where the mission work has spilled over from the Olposimoru (mission station at the Kenya / Tanzania border)

The first mission station is Mundorosi. It is in northern Tanzania about 140 km from Narok and 40 km from Loliondo and is part of the Ngorongoro district of Arusha province.

Currently we have a congregation of 24 adults and 20 school age children. The region is vast, and sparsely populated. There are three pastors working in this area, and two are undergoing pastoral training.

Sudan

Sudan is Kenya’s neighbor to the north. It has recently opened up following the end of a civil war that had taken forty years and claimed many lives.

The Africa Gospel Church is involved in pioneer work in partnership with two different organizations. First of all, there is MUPE, Missions to the Unreached People, where we are working among the Murulei people in Boma.

The AGC is also collaborating with Safe Harbor International. They are currently doing some social and development work among the Dinka people with the view of allowing A.G.C to plant churches.

Uganda

A.G.C is working with World Gospel Mission and Africa Gospel Church Uganda. Currently, one of our missionaries is working in evangelism and discipleship ministries with university students in Kampala and assisting with leadership training.

There are also churches planted through a spill over from the Kang’oletiang (Kenya) mission station near the northwestern border of Kenya and Uganda. The ministry here emphasizes evangelism, discipleship, and church planting.
